Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: The Foldable That Changes Everything
Samsung has done it again. The Galaxy Z Fold 7, unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked on July 9, 2025, and available globally from July 25, 2025, is the thinnest, lightest, and most capable foldable Samsung has ever made. Whether you’re a long-time Fold fan or a foldable-curious newcomer, the Fold 7 makes a compelling case that the future of smartphones bends.
What’s New in the Galaxy Z Fold 7?
The Fold 7 is a genuine leap forward, not just a spec bump. Here’s what Samsung upgraded:
- 🖥️ Larger cover display: 6.5″ (up from 6.3″ on the Fold 6) — finally feels like a real phone when closed
- 📸 200MP main camera: A massive jump from the 50MP shooter on the Fold 6, co-developed with ZEISS optics
- ⚡ Snapdragon 8 Elite chip: The fastest mobile processor available, delivering a huge performance boost
- 🪶 Thinnest Fold ever: At just 8.9mm folded, it’s significantly slimmer than the Fold 6’s 12.1mm
- 🏋️ Lightest Fold ever: Weighing in lighter than its predecessor thanks to a new titanium frame
- 🤖 Galaxy AI: Expanded AI features including Live Translate, Note Assist, and Circle to Search built-in
- 🔋 4,400 mAh battery with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging
Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs Galaxy Z Fold 6: Head-to-Head
Here’s how the two generations stack up side by side:
| Feature | Galaxy Z Fold 7 | Galaxy Z Fold 6 |
|---|---|---|
| Main (inner) display | 8.0″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X | 7.6″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X |
| Cover display | 6.5″ | 6.3″ |
| Main camera | 200MP (ZEISS) | 50MP |
| Processor | Snapdragon 8 Elite | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 |
| Thickness (folded) | 8.9mm | 12.1mm |
| RAM | 12GB | 12GB |
| Battery | 4,400 mAh | 4,400 mAh |
| OS (launch) | Android 15 / One UI 7 | Android 14 / One UI 6.1 |
| Starting price | ~$1,899 | ~$1,799 |
Should You Upgrade?
If you’re on a Fold 6 or older, the Fold 7 is the most compelling upgrade argument Samsung has made in years. The jump to a 200MP camera alone would turn heads, but the combination of a dramatically thinner body, larger cover screen, and a next-gen chip makes this feel like a generational shift rather than an annual refresh. If you’re new to foldables, the Fold 7 is arguably the first one that doesn’t ask you to make too many compromises.
The Verdict
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the best foldable smartphone ever made — full stop. It’s thinner, faster, and shoots better photos than anything in its class. At $1,899, it’s not cheap, but for power users who want one device that does everything, it might just be worth every penny.
